Escape game
During my first year of study at Supinfogame - Rubika, I created, as a group, an escape game on the theme of the Grimm Brothers' tales. We had very few resources and experience but a lot of ideas and desire to exploit.
Although this is my first game project, and it is not free from all flaws, I am proud of it because it allowed me to get a foothold in the job of my dreams.

My job
-
General game design
-
Imagine the macro of the game and the main mechanics, here the communication between the players.
-
-
Level Design
-
Imagine, draw and create the layout of the room and the players' route.
-

I chose communication as the center of gameplay in order to stick to the Hansel and Gretel atmosphere that we had chosen, as well as to base it on the understanding between the players and their ability to organize themselves .
I quickly chose to divide the players into 2 teams locked in 2 different rooms. They must help each other to free themselves and join together to confront the witch and escape.
Context
Year : 2019
Project type : Escape Game
Team: 3 persons, including myself
Role : Game Designer
Time limit : 3 monthes
Constraints :
-
Escape Game
-
Tales of the Brothers Grimm
-
1h of playable game with a game master

The immersion even with the low budget
Despite our lack of resources, we wanted players to feel at the mercy of the witch. For this we based part of the game on the atmosphere .
The room was plunged into darkness , all the puzzles and decorations were in the horror and witchcraft theme.
In addition, the Game Master was himself in the room , he played the witch . Indeed, we did not want the players to be taken out of their experience by an external Game Master. It is therefore the witch who, speaking in her sleep, guides the players to eliminate her.
DIY riddles
In addition to macro design, I participated in creating the puzzles that the players faced.
We had to do riddles:
-
Varied
-
In the "witch" theme
-
Not too difficult
-
To make ourselves
Designing these puzzles was quite difficult but we achieved a result that matched our desires.

What the project has taught me
Teamwork

I'd worked in groups in previous projects outside of gaming where one person did all the work for the others, but this was the first time teamwork really took on importance. I learned the division of roles , tasks , organization etc.
How to buld a project

With this project, I learned how a project is built, from the first idea to the final rendering, including the division of tasks, rendering milestones, organization of work, etc. It was my first project to be submitted that was graded by a jury, which is a change from the organization on personal projects.
Develop my ideas and apply them

I also learned to develop an idea, deepen it, criticize it, question it, challenge it or even improve it until reaching a concrete product. Having ideas is good, putting them into practice is better.
